Teigen Gayse graduated from CAT’s Audio Engineering and Production Program in 2014 and has been forging a career in country music ever since.

Teigen Gayse’s new single ‘Blame the Wine’ (from her album ‘Teigen Gayse’) is making a great showing in Canada’s Billboard Country charts. We sat down to chat with her about it.

CAT: Tell us about your new album.

TG: I recorded and released my self-titled debut album last April in Dripping Springs Texas, right smack in the middle of the pandemic. It was an unusual time but I’m so grateful I had this project to work on during everything, and I met so many incredible people along the way. I wrote every song on the album myself which is something I’m really proud of.

CAT: Tell us about your single.

TG: I just released a new single on August 6th called “Blame The Wine”. It’s on all streaming platforms and there is a lyric video on YouTube. Stay tuned for a music video! The idea for this song started during quarantine when I was in Texas after drinking a glass of wine or 4 with my girlfriend/manager at the time. After returning to Canada I decided to rewrite the song and here we are 🙂

CAT gives you all the tools you need to have a successful career, but you need to apply yourself in order to get there.”

CAT: You have entered the Canadian Country Billboard charts – when did this happen and what number have you been charting?

TG: I’ve been on the Canadian billboard charts for over 17 weeks now which is insane! Right now I’m sitting at #50 and I’ve made it to #43. I’m hoping to beat my record with this next single. My goal is to make it in the Top Ten (fingers crossed) – “shoot for the moon and you’ll land among the stars”. I have to thank Country Radio for making this possible, they saw something in me and my song and I’m so grateful.

CAT: The above must feel like such a huge accomplishment, tell us how you felt when you found out, and what something like this means to your career.

TG: I didn’t understand at first or realize how big of a deal it was until I had some people tell me. It’s really cool to see my dreams unfold before my eyes and I just pray I keep making good music and make everyone and myself proud. To me, it means I’m headed in the right direction and I’m doing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing. This is my foot in the door, I have to keep going, not give up and most importantly, be a kind person along the way.

CAT: I hear you are currently doing a lot of gigging in the Okanagan – let us know the details!

TG: I am doing some gigging in the Okanagan area and it’s been so wonderful so far! I have all my show dates posted on my website and I’m very active on my social media about my show dates. I’ve been doing a lot of winery shows which has been fun because I just released a song about wine.

CAT: Do you have any fav venues or ones that are especially close to your heart, and why?

TG: They have all been such wonderful venues but a couple of personal favourites that hit home for me were Blind Tiger, Vibrant Vine and Summerland Estate Winery. These were all new venues for me to play at this year and they were so beautiful, the staff was so nice and the crowd was so fun to play to.

CAT: What advice would you have for aspiring artists coming through the CAT Audio Programs?

TG: I would say that you get from it what you put in. If you want something bad enough you have to go for it. CAT gives you all the tools you need to have a successful career but you need to apply yourself in order to get there. If you believe in yourself and work hard you will make it to the top of the mountain.
